Kieran Maguire questions Man City leak ‘allegation’ after latest Premier League scandal twist

The Premier League won’t have briefed the press about their Man City investigation as it could help the Premier League’s non-cooperation defence.

That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about City’s complaints regarding the timing of the Premier League’s financial charges.

As per the Daily Mirror, Man City claim that media outlets were briefed by the Premier League before they released the announcement that the reigning champions face over 100 financial breaches.

Football Insider sources revealed last month (11 February) that Man City’s claims that the press were briefed were fabricated by the Premier League club.

In the previous investigation regarding Man City and CAS, City were fined £9million for not cooperating, and the club were also accused of not cooperating with the Premier League’s investigation.

Maguire believes the Premier League would have avoided briefing hte press as all it would have done was played into City’s defence about cooperation.

As far as the allegations made by Manchester City are concerned, I don’t see the Premier League going down the route of briefing the press,” Maguire told Football Insider.

While it would not constitute part of the evidence, it could actually help to support Manchester City’s claim that they’ve not been delaying.

Part of Man City’s defence against the accusations of non-cooperation were that they were adamant that the Premier League had been briefing journalists over the course of the investigation and therefore they felt it was unfair.

“If the Premier League did, then it falls into City’s hands.
