Kieran Maguire reveals Birmingham City ‘suspicion’ after Tom Brady takeover twist
Birmingham City can use Tom Brady’s investment in the club to help boost commercial and sponsorship profit in the United States.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Brady’s ownership of the club is far more ‘symbolic’ than it is genuine.
Birmingham announced on Thursday (3 August) that NFL superstar Brady had partnered with Knighthead Capital Management LLC to become a minority owner of the club.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner will adopt a role as the Chairman of the Advisory Board, where he will contribute to the sports science department to advise on health, nutrition, wellness, and recovery systems and programs.
Brady has previously worked with new Blues owner Tom Wagner, who recently completed a £22million takeover of the Championship club.
Maguire believes Brady’s popularity in the United States will help Birmingham take advantage of a new wave of ‘enthusiasm’ from fans.
“I have a suspicion that Tom Brady’s investment in Birmingham City is more symbolic than real,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“It’s highly unlikely that he will take a significant stake in the club, but he does bring front-of-house attention.
“Given the enthusiasm that does currently exist in the United States for soccer as they see it, this is a good way of attracting one of their golden boys of sport to an individual club.

“On the back of that, Birmingham have a great opportunity to sell both commercial sponsorship arrangements.
“They will also hugely benefit when it comes to merchandise sales from a new wave of US fans.“
