Kieran Maguire reveals ‘very lucrative’ Man United twist
Man United have found a ‘very lucrative’ way to resell tickets at Old Trafford after cracking down on ‘ticket touting’.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Red Devils are able to resell tickets at nearly 10 times the value of their original price.
As reported by the Daily Mail, United have launched a ‘crackdown’ on ticket touting by asking fans to report any tickets sold above the £50 face value.
The club described the issue as ‘one of the biggest they face’ each season, and have now decided to take action.
Any fan found to have sold tickets above face value or through ‘unofficial channels’ could face a potential stadium ban.
However, Maguire believes United’s new ticket strategy helps the club to turn over a large profit by reselling tickets in hospitality sectors.
“Historically, Man United have turned a blind eye to fans transferring tickets,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“To a certain extent, it is understandable given how many games at Old Trafford are changed for TV purposes in terms of kick-off times.
“It’s not always easy for fans to set aside a whole weekend to watch the team that they support.
“What Man United have cottoned onto, however, is that they can buy back the tickets at season ticket prices, so fans get a small margin of their season ticket fee back.
“United will then repackage the tickets and sell them to tourist fans.

“It will take fans to a warehouse in Trafford Park, have a club legend pose for photos, and suddenly a ticket that was previously retailing for £40 can now be sold for £300-£400 by the club.
“It is a very lucrative strategy for the club if they stop fans from transferring tickets and choose to re-sell them themselves.”
