Kieran Maguire shares £100m+ Leeds United reveal
Relegation will cost Leeds United over £100million but they are still in a “solid” financial position.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the economic impact of relegation at Elland Road.
Leeds were unable to retain their Premier League status this season, finishing 19th in the table following a 4-1 loss to Tottenham on the final day of the season.
It marked the end of the Yorkshire club’s three-year stay in the top flight following their promotion in 2020.
Leeds are now set for a busy summer period with the club looking to appoint a new manager and director of football as well as offload a number of players to balance their wage bill.
On top of that, the club is set to be taken over by the 49ers Enterprises after they entered an agreement to buy the club from current chairman Andrea Radrizzani.
Maguire insists that Leeds are ‘financially secure’ with relegation clauses in place to handle the cost of their squad.
“Being relegated is likely going to cost Leeds over £100million in terms of reduction in broadcast money and sponsorship,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“I don’t anticipate any changes as far as matchday income is concerned except from the prawn sandwich brigade as Leeds fans follow their team across the country through thick and thin.
“It will take a period of acclimatisation in the Championship but there are some significant wage cut clauses in contracts and Leeds have sellable assets so from a liquidity point of view the club is financially secure.

“In terms of the prospective 49ers takeover, they do have resources to pull from should additional funds be required.
“But I believe Leeds are in a fairly solid position from a financial perspective.“
