Kieran Maguire suggests Man United agreeing Antony loan deal to avoid £48m FFP blow
Man United may loan out Antony this summer instead of selling him permanently as that could damage their FFP accounts.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that Antony now has a book value of around £50million.
The Red Devils spent a staggering £85million to sign Antony from Ajax in 2022, but the Brazilian has struggled to settle in at Old Trafford.
He has scored nine goals and provided four assists in his 73 appearances for the club.
As revealed by Football Insider, Antony’s value has halved and United are now willing to accept a £40million loss on him.
How much could Man United sell Antony for this summer?
Maguire explained that United will be “concerned” that the sale of Antony will be recorded as a major loss on their accounts and therefore they could instead look to loan him out this summer.
“After taking amortisation into account, Antony is likely to have a book value of around about £48million to £50million this summer in the Manchester United accounts,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“If they manage to sell the player for that amount, I think that will constitute good business from their point of view.
“There are few people that will argue that United didn’t hugely overpay for his services in the first place, and the return on that investment has been poor.

“They will be concerned that they don’t want to have an accounting loss, which will count towards FFP if he is sold.
“Therefore it will be intriguing to watch what happens to him next season where it could be beneficial from an FFP point of view if they loan him out rather than sell him.“
