Kieran Maguire ‘surprised’ by Newcastle United after pictures emerge
Kieran Maguire has suggested Newcastle United will benefit financially from the one-off shirts they wore against Brighton on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the finance expert predicted the warm-up version of the kit, which is available at the club store, will “fly off the shelves.”
On Tuesday (9 August), the Magpies announced they would wear a special one-off Castore shirt adorned with the Tyneside skyline at Brighton on Saturday.
It comes after the Premier League ruled that all three of Newcastle’s kits for the 2022-23 campaign would clash with the Seagull’s blue and white shirt.
Eddie Howe’s side shared a goalless draw at the Amex Stadium.
When asked by Football Insider if the one-off kit could pay dividends for the club financially, Maguire said: “It perhaps shows a lack of planning from whoever has made the decision over the kit colours.
“This is all being driven by colour blindness. As a colour blind fan, who works with colour blindness organisations, I was surprised when I saw their kits. I thought, what are they going to do when they play against somebody who plays in blue and white?

“You can see this flying off the shelves at St. James’ Park because they have started the season so well. Fans will buy into that.
“I don’t think it is a cynical move. It is one made out of necessity.”
In other news, a pundit has predicted this is when Martin Dubravka could leave Newcastle United amid a confession from Eddie Howe.
