Kieran Maguire tips Chelsea to strike short-term deal after source’s £25m reveal

Chelsea could strike a short-term front-of-shirt deal this summer after dropping their asking price.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Chelsea’s issues when looking for a sponsorship deal.

Football Insider reported on Wednesday (12 July) that Chelsea have dropped their asking price for a shirt sponsorship deal to £25million.

The Blues initially wanted to match the £40million per season valuation of their previous deal with Three, but lack of European football has made that difficult.

Talks were held with Allianz, Paramount Plus and Stake, but no deal came to fruition and Chelsea were forced to launch their 2023/24 home kit without a shirt sponsor.

Maguire believes a short-term deal this season would be logical for the Londoners, who could then renegotiate terms with another partner if they qualify for Europe.

I suspect that if Chelsea do strike a front-of-shirt deal it will be a very short-term agreement,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

They are not in the Champions League or any European competition and that reduces the interest and number of viewers watching them.

That, in turn, impacts the price they can get for a front-of-shirt deal.

Chelsea could choose to sign a one-year deal worth £25million and then start negotiating straight away for future long-term deals with the hope that they return to the Champions League.

In that sense, their approach makes sense.
