Kieran Maguire: Tottenham bidders ‘gifted’ £50m boost amid takeover twist
The sustainability of Tottenham and their new stadium will appeal to investors looking to purchase the club.
That is the opinion of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the stark contrast in ownership models at Chelsea and Tottenham.
The Financial Times reported last Wednesday (15 February) that Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi is preparing a blockbuster £3.1bn takeover bid for Tottenham Hotspur.

Todd Boehly’s consortium completed a £2.5bn takeover of Chelsea last season, while Liverpool and Man United’s owners also revealed last November that they are open to full sales.
Tottenham are the latest Premier League club to be subject to takeover bids, and the value of the north London club is bound to raise eyebrows considering the contrasting sporting success of Chelsea and Tottenham.
But Maguire insists that the sustainability of Tottenham and their new multi-functional stadium makes the club very appealing to investors.
“While Spurs are not a bigger club than Chelsea in terms of sporting success, most of Chelsea’s success came through Roman Abramovich preparing to write off losses of £900,000-a-week for 19 years,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“In contrast, Spurs have future-proofed their revenue streams through the move to the new stadium and this will give them a competitive advantage over Chelsea moving forwards.
“They should be able to generate £40-50m matchday revenues in excess of what their rivals produce.
“If that leads to greater participation in the Champions League then those monies can be increased even further.

“While Spurs are probably behind Chelsea in terms of commercial appeal globally, it does give the club an opportunity to grow and I think this is reflected in the value.
“Anyone taking over Chelsea knew there were significant infrastructure costs attached to Stamford Bridge but any investors looking at purchasing Tottenham are gifted with a new multi-functional stadium.“
