‘Kieran McKenna emerges as Tottenham replacement after Ange Postecoglou sack’

Tottenham face a big managerial decision on Ange Postecoglou in the coming weeks and a new name has emerged in the running to take over.

It has been a dismal season in the Premier League for Spurs, who currently sit 16th in the top-flight standings, having lost 18 of their 33 league games.

They do still have hope of a trophy and qualification for the Champions League, with the club beating Eintracht Frankfurt last week to ensure they have progressed to the semi finals of the Europa League.

Despite that, there is a growing expectation that Tottenham will sack Postecoglou even if they win the Europa League at the end of the season.

Ipswich Town boss emerges as new Spurs target

A number of Premier League managers have already been discussed as potential replacements for Postecoglou in North London.

It is understood that Tottenham are considering triggering the release clause of Thomas Frank at Brentford as they search for a potential successor in the dugout.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are believed to be working on a new contract for Andoni Iraola after the Cherries boss refused an approach from Spurs.

Now another candidate to have emerged as a potential replacement for Postecoglou is Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna.

It looks as though the 38-year-old’s side will suffer an immediate relegation from the Premier League this season.

Despite that, the former Man United coach has now been named as a contender to become the next Tottenham manager.

Speaking on talkSPORT about those who are potential candidates to replace Postecoglou at Spurs, including promoted Burnley’s Scott Parker, journalist Alex Crook noted: “So’s Kieran McKenna, and I wouldn’t completely rule that one out.”

Kieran McKenna gamble worth considering for Tottenham

Football Insider Verdict

There is no denying that the fact Ipswich look set to go straight back down to the Championship does mean there is an element of risk to a move for McKenna for Spurs.

Even so, that could be a chance that is worth taking, when you consider what he has previously achieved during his time at Portman Road.

Ipswich were stagnant in League One when he took charge, but in his two full seasons in charge of the club prior to this one, McKenna guided the club to two promotions.

It was always going to be a challenge for them to cope with going from the third-tier to the top-flight in just two years, so the fact they have come out better than the other two promoted sides is commendable.

That may make McKenna a worthy option to consider for Tottenham, given they can give him a stronger squad, and are another club who feel like they need a lift he has shown he can provide.

Even so, Spurs may face competition for that appointment, with Fulham and Brentford also believed to be keen on McKenna should they lose their managers this summer.
