Kieran Tierney backed to complete sensational Celtic return – ‘he loves Brendan’, says expert
Kieran Tierney has been backed for a sensational return to Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Hoops striker Frank McAvennie said he wouldn’t be surprised if Tierney returns to Parkhead this summer to play under Brendan Rodgers.
The 26-year-old, who played under Rodgers before making the move to Arsenal, has been linked with a return to the Scottish Champions following his former manager’s re-appointment.
According to the Sun (27 June), the defender has not closed the door on coming back to Celtic Park this summer after a frustrating season at the Emirates.
Last month (29 May), Football Insider revealed that the Gunners are open to selling the left-back this summer with Newcastle United pushing hard for his signature.
Tierney’s current contract runs until 2026.
But McAvennie suggested a loan move to Parkhead could be on the cards.
“He loves Brendan but I just think his next move is Newcastle,” he told Football Insider.
“If Newcastle didn’t want him the best thing for him would probably be to get a loan deal for a year [to Celtic]. That would suit everyone because he would be playing every game.

“Everyone knows he is a Celtic supporter so going back wouldn’t be a big deal.
“When I came back to Celtic it was not a big thing because I was a supporter. All I can say if that if it was to happen I would not be surprised but I do not think it will. I think Tierney is on the way to the top.“
