Kilmarnock vs Celtic postponement latest as Met Office issue new weather warning in Scotland

Celtic’s away tie to Kilmarnock on Sunday may now be in doubt after the latest weather warning in Scotland.

The Met Office on 13 February released a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that covers the majority of Scotland, including Kilmarnock.

This is expected to last between 9pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday, with the warning stating that roads and railway journeys will likely be affected, and there is the potential to be injured on the slippery surfaces.

Due to this, it remains a possibility that the game at Rugby Park could be called off. However, it remains to be seen if these steps are taken.

Celtic at risk of massive fixture pile-up

For Celtic and Martin O’Neill, they will be desperate for the game to go ahead.

The Hoops already have a game in hand on Hearts and Rangers after their match against Aberdeen was postponed due to the weather.

If the Kilmarnock game was to follow suit, it could create a mad rush for Celtic to complete their fixtures before the split in April.

Over the next three weeks, Celtic are already set to play in seven fixtures in all competitions, including their two-legged tie against Stuttgart in the Europa League.

Therefore, if the Kilmarnock game was delayed, it could add further strain on O’Neill’s squad, potentially affecting their title chances.

Celtic’s record vs Kilmarnock explained

In recent years, Kilmarnock have rarely given Celtic any trouble, with the Glaswegians dominating most of their meetings.

The Hoops have won their last seven matches against Killie, including resounding 5-0 and 5-1 victories.

Their last defeat came in the 2023-24 campaign, when Kilmarnock managed to secure a 2-1 win at Rugby Park.

In fact, Killie have been able to pick up two wins against Celtic in their last five meetings at Rugby Park.

In their last fixture, O’Neill of the Glaswegians, with the Old Firm side winning 4-0 at Celtic Park in a simple match for the hosts.

Now, if the game goes ahead, the Northern Ireland manager will be hoping that a similar outcome happens as he looks to put pressure on Rangers and Hearts, with the two other title contenders facing each other on the same day.
