Klopp shares huge hint about summer transfer plans amid injury crisis
By Matt Bullin
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed a huge hint about his summer plans by saying “it would make sense” for the Reds to sign a new centre back.
Klopp’s side have struggled with injuries in the centre-back department this season as Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan have all spent periods on the sidelines.
Liverpool’s latest injury set back was announced by Klopp today via Liverpool’s official Twitter account, as Matip and Klavan are set to Sunday’s clash with Crystal Palace.

Klopp’s comments also come after The Times named Liverpool as one of the club’s leading the race to sign Southampton star Virgil van Dijk.
Speaking in the Daily Express, Klopp remained coy on who he would sign, but did hint that he would sign a new centre back this summer.

The German said: “It would make sense if we signed a centre-back this summer – we have had injury issues in defence this season.”
Football Insider verdict
Klopp’s admission will give Liverpool fans confidence that some much needed signings are inbound. However it remains unclear whether Klopp was talking about van Dijk or another target. What is clear is that Liverpool need a dependable centre back. Lovren and Matip, the club’s first choice pairing, have only started 14 of Liverpool’s 33 Premier League matches together. What makes it worse for the Reds is that they are unbeaten when the pair start. If Klopp does sign a new centre-back this summer he should make sure he’s injury-free and dependable.
In other Liverpool transfer news, reports say the Reds are ready to let this 23-year-old star leave in the summer.
