Kobbie Mainoo ‘back in the picture’ at Man United after confirmed news

Michael Carrick is being backed to succeed at Man United and give increased opportunities to academy talent.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, with Kobbie Mainoo expected to be one of those to benefit from Carrick’s arrival.

Carrick will take caretaker charge of Man United until the end of the season, following the club’s decision to sack Ruben Amorim.

Man United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup means Carrick’s sole focus will now be on securing European football next season in the Premier League table.

Michael Carrick to ‘calm things down’ at Man United

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Carrick is the right appointment for Man United.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the club will get back to the “real fundamentals” under the 44-year-old’s leadership.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think all along we’ve said Michael Carrick would be the preferred choice above Ole Gunnar Solskjaer even when all the media headlines were all about Ole and being back at the wheel.

“But no, I had always stuck thinking that Michael Carrick was the best choice. I think he is the right one to calm things down a bit at Man United. And I’m pleased to see that Jim Ratcliffe is finally listening to me and to us and taking our advice, which is always good for him, because I think he’ll see something good happening now.

“He will calm things down. He’s already talked about bringing Mainoo back in the picture, which means bringing Academy players through properly, and so yes, I think that this is going to be the right move and giving United a chance to, as I say, quieten down the circus that was around Amorim, get back to some real fundamentals about Man United, who they are and the style of play.”

Man United permanent manager latest

German manager Julian Nagelsmann is interested in the Man United role, if he returns to club management after the World Cup.

The 38-year-old, who has previously taken charge of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, is under contract with the German national team until 2028.

Man United chiefs are said to be pushing for Nagelsmann to become their next manager, with Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner also a strong contender.
