Everton blow as duo ruled out of Swansea clash

By Harvey Byrne

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that both Morgan Schneiderlin and James McCarthy will miss Saturday evening’s clash against Swansea.

The Toffees are preparing to travel to the Liberty Stadium this weekend which will see them take on a side fighting for survival.

Koeman’s side will be hoping to pick up all three points as they make an attempt to break into the top six with three matches left, but they have been dealt a blow with the Dutchman telling in his press conference, as covered by the official Everton Twitter account that midfield duo Schneiderlin and McCarthy would not play at the weekend.

January signing Schneiderlin was ruled out of last weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Chelsea through injury, but fans will be happy to hear that he could make a return for the penultimate game against Watford next Friday.

Meanwhile, long-term servant McCarthy has not played for the Toffees in the league since making an appearance from the bench in a 3-2 defeat against Tottenham in May.

The Merseyside club do however have adequate cover in their midfield ranks and it is likely summer signing Idrissa Gueye will line up alongside young star Tom Davies against Swansea.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are eyeing up this Euro goal machine who has bagged 31 goals in 28 games this season.
