Kostas Tsimikas ‘got away with one’ for Liverpool as controversy analysed – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Kostas Tsimikas “got away with one” for Liverpool against Arsenal on Sunday (9 October).
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said incidents involving “aggression” are “subjective”.
In the second half Tsimikas appeared to catch Gabriel Jesus in the face with an elbow and the Gunners were awarded a free kick.
Michael Oliver chose not to show Tsimikas a card and the VAR official did not intervene with the on field decision.
A sending off would have seen the Greek international banned for the Merseysiders’ next three Premier League games, including an Anfield clash against Man City.
Liverpool went on to lose the game 3-2.
Hutton said players need to be careful when using their elbows.
“I think whenever your elbows are high it can be a problem,” he told Football Insider. “We see it all the time where VAR go back and check.
“I think it is when there is real intent. When you really jump using your elbows, often your elbows naturally come up.
“When you are leading there is aggression with it but again it is subjective.
“It always comes back to that word. It just depends how you look at it, you can be fortunate and get away with one.“

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit 10th in the English top flight.
The Reds have just ten points from eight games so far this season.
