Kostas Tsimikas return mooted as Andy Robertson exit update emerges at Liverpool

Kostas Tsimikas is currently on loan in Serie A, but maybe not for too much longer if Liverpool require cover at full-back.

Arne Slot lost Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer during the summer, but with Jeremie Frimpong arriving on a £29.5million deal, that problem was quickly solved at Anfield.

Now, however, the boss could lose another full-back, as Tottenham target a move for Andy Robertson ahead of the winter transfer window closing, with Thomas Frank clearly wanting more leaders.

Robertson was close to joining Atletico Madrid during the summer, but a deal never came to fruition, and the Lilywhites could now benefit from that missed transfer ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Liverpool could recall Kostas Tsimikas to plug the gaps

Tsimikas has made 16 appearances since moving to AS Roma, even grabbing an assist against Nice in the Europa League back in September, but starts have been hard to come by.

Taking to X after the news, the Daily Mail’s Dominic King emphasised that a return to Anfield for Tsimikas could be possible should Robertson move to North London.

He wrote, “A note to add, if Andy Robertson does end up going to Tottenham, is that Liverpool have the option to recall Kostas Tsimikas from Roma, if required. Situation remains ongoing.”

Robertson, on the other hand, has started just four Premier League games this season, but with a goal and assist in the Champions League, he continues to pop up in important moments.

Tsimikas has already spoken about a potential Anfield return

When Tsimikas joined Roma on loan in the summer, many fans assumed that would be the last they saw of the Greek international, having always played second fiddle at Anfield.

Despite his lack of success on Merseyside, he has not totally ruled out a long-term return at Anfield, speaking out about his season-long loan and his decisions behind the move [The Athletic].

He said, “You never know. The most important thing for me is to be healthy, to train hard, and to play more games. Next year is a different story for me.

“I want to be successful, I want to win things. Only God knows what will happen in the next year.”

While many fans are against the 29-year-old’s return, mainly based on his lack of qualities across the board, he could be a much-needed player should Robertson make a late move to Spurs.
