Kris Boyd rages at Yerson Mosquera incident in Wolves loss vs Chelsea: ‘I have no idea what he’s doing’

Kris Boyd has fumed at Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera after he clumsily gave away a penalty for a foul on Joao Pedro during their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Wolves have been in dire straits for the majority of the season so far, but have been buoyed by some better recent form that has seen them beat West Ham and take points from Man United and Newcastle.

Jorgen Strand Larsen left Wolves for Crystal Palace on Deadline Day of the January window, but Rob Edwards was able to add to his squad with the arrivals of Adam Armstrong and Angel Gomes.

Chelsea headed into Saturday’s clash on a three-game winning run in the Premier League, but were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal in midweek as they crashed out of the Carabao Cup.

Liam Rosenior’s side made light work of their lowly opponents at Molineux, and their quest for three points was greatly helped by some lacklustre defending from Mosquera and his teammates.

Yerson Mosquera commits rash challenge on Joao Pedro

Chelsea went ahead in the 13th minute through Cole Palmer‘s penalty after Matt Doherty’s foul on Brazilian striker Pedro.

Mosquera then handed Palmer a chance to bag his brace 20 minutes later as he shoved an onrushing Pedro after he had just latched onto a long ball on the edge of the penalty area.

Jarred Gillett pointed to the spot once more, and Palmer converted again, with Boyd slamming Mosquera live on Sky Sports following the penalty incident.

He said: “I have no idea what Mosquera is doing. Joao Pedro just gets into the box, he’s taken a touch, he’s (Mosquera) going into the box as well, and he just shoves him in the back.

“Honestly, I have no idea what the defenders are doing in this game. It was Doherty to start with, it’s Mosquera here.”

Wolves heroics could revitalise Palmer’s struggling form

Palmer soon grabbed his hat-trick inside the first half at Molineux, as Chelsea went on to pick up all three points despite Tolu Arokodare’s second half strike.

The England star has not been at his best amid recurring injury issues this season, with just four Premier League goals prior to Saturday’s win.

Man United were surprisingly linked with a move for Palmer last month, after reports of homesickness in London, but he seems unlikely to leave Chelsea anytime soon, considering his contract length and the huge fee they would demand.

Palmer’s World Cup hopes have been in the balance due to his struggles this season, but this stellar performance could be the catalyst for a strong end to the campaign to cement him in Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
