Kris Boyd tears into Caixinha after Rangers defeat, compares to Warburton

By Danny Wright

Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd has torn into Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha following the defeat to Motherwell on Sunday in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

The ex-Ibrox forward sees his side take on the Light Blues on Wednesday night as they return to Premiership action following their poor 2-0 loss the Motherwell at the weekend which saw pressure heaped on Caixinha as calls for him to be sacked grew ever louder.

Boyd has now suggested that Caixinha is doing something wrong at half-time due to the abnormal goals that he has noticed the Gers to have conceded after the break.

He has also stunningly claimed that the Portuguese manager has got less out of his side than ex-boss Mark Warburton, who acrimoniously left the club in February and was never a popular choice among the Gers supporters.

“You’re a football manager and there are two things you must guarantee and that’s to make the players better and make the environment you are coaching in better and I don’t see that,” said Boyd on radio show BBC Sportsound on Tuesday morning, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“I think Rangers were a better team (under Warburton). Rangers had a style and an identity. Whether it was good or bad.

He added: “There seems to be something happening at half time at Rangers. When you look at when Rangers are conceding goals then there is something not right.

“Slivka for Hibs was on 65 minutes, Mikkelsen for Ross County on 59 minutes. The Partick Thistle goals came on 50 and 60 minutes. The Celtic ones were 50 and 65 minutes and Louis Moult’s comes on 52.”

Rangers can potentially move within three points of Premiership leaders Aberdeen and Celtic on Wednesday night if they beat Kilmarnock, who will be managed by Steve Clarke for the first time.

The Dons and Hoops face against each other, also on Wednesday, in a tie that could see one side move away from the chasing pack and the other move into Rangers’ clutches.
