Kris Commons hails one true Rangers 'shining light' in win at Hamilton (not Windass)
By Richard Parks
Former Celtic playmaker Kris Commons hailed Jamie Murphy as the one true Rangers “shining light” on Sky Sports following their win at Hamilton on Sunday.
Josh Windass grabbed the headlines with his second hat-trick in five matches as the Light Blues continued their impressive post-Christmas form with a 5-3 win in a thriller at the Superseal Stadium.
Murphy scored his first goal for the club he joined in January as Rangers climbed to second in the Scottish Premiership with his performance on the left wing catching the eye of the pundits.
“I thought Murphy was the true shining light for Rangers,” said Commons during Sky Sports Football’s post match coverage of the televised fixture on Sunday afternoon. “He got into excellent positions and created a lot of problems for the defenders with his use of the ball. He really stood out for me.”
A rampant Gers side have scored 11 goals in their last two outings and are next in action with a home league fixture against Hearts at Ibrox next Saturday.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers made some solid acquisitions in January, but none has made more of an impact than Murphy, whose pedigree and class has been evident from day one. The Glasgow-born Scot was signed on a loan-to-buy deal and has settled well into the previously problem left-flank role in which the team had only square pegs for a round hole. Murphy’s touch, vision and all-round understanding of the game has impressed, and his linking of the play should improve the more he plays with Windass, Alfredo Morelos and company.
In other Rangers news, a key first teamer has rejected a contract offer from the Ibrox hierarchy in a shattering new blow.
