‘Kudus to Chelsea update as Tottenham expected to table new West Ham bid’

Tottenham are expected to return with another bid for West Ham star Mohammed Kudus but Chelsea are also linked with a move for the talented Ghanaian.

The Blues have taken the transfer window by storm this summer and are showing no signs of slowing down.

Liam Delap joined from Ipswich after Enzo Maresca’s side fended off interest from Man United, Arsenal, and a host of European clubs.

Joao Pedro was also signed from Brighton and Jamie Gittens joined from Borussia Dortmund after an initial approach was rejected by the German side.

Meanwhile, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, and Kendry Paez have all joined Chelsea after completing pre-agreed moves.

And despite spending £210million [transfermarkt] on transfers already this summer, the Blues have been linked with a move for Kudus, although Tottenham are leading the race for the West Ham man’s signature, according to The Standard.

Chelsea and West Ham ‘way apart’ in Mohammed Kudus valuation

According to the report, the Ghanaian winger was offered to Chelsea earlier in the summer, but “a move to Stamford Bridge is unlikely with the two clubs some way apart in their valuations” of Kudus.

West Ham‘s winger would prefer to join Thomas Frank’s side over a move to the Club World Cup semi-finalists.

Tottenham “are expected to make an improved offer for Kudus”, after seeing a bid of £50m rejected on 5 July [The Athletic].

Whilst Kudus has a release clause of £85m for Premier League clubs, Spurs are “said to be confident they can sign the forward for well below his buy-out fee”.

Chelsea should focus on Estevao development over Kudus deal

Football Insider Verdict

Despite making a flying start to life in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season, Kudus endured a huge drop-off in both goal contributions and form last season.

West Ham struggled as a collective last season, going through two managers and failing to settle under either of Julen Lopetegui or Graham Potter.

But whilst Jarrod Bowen continued to contribute, Kudus managed just five goals in all competitions after scoring 14 a year prior.

He may be young and untested in the Premier League, but Chelsea should ignore the allure of Kudus’ potential peak and instead focus on their young star Estevao.

The 18-year-old lit up the Club World Cup and despite enduring a 2-1 loss to his new side whilst playing for Palmeiras, the winger’s goal against the Blues gave a glimpse into what he can do.

Despite their desire to continue adding to the plethora of attacking talent that already exists at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea would be better served allowing their rivals Tottenham to splash out on Kudus.
