Kyle Walker and James Trafford respond as Maxime Esteve news confirmed

Maxime Esteve earned reactions from both his current and former teammates at Burnley following the latest announcement.

Esteve enjoyed an outstanding campaign under Scott Parker last season, playing a crucial role as Burnley secured automatic promotion back to the Premier League.

He was at the heart of a back line that equalled the Football League clean sheet record of 30, first set by Port Vale in 1953/54, with the Clarets conceding just 16 goals across the entire league season.

However, that success has come at a cost, with Burnley losing key players this summer. Goalkeeper James Trafford has returned to Manchester City, while CJ Egan-Riley departed to join Marseille.

Esteve himself had been linked with a possible exit from Burnley, but now, he has been recognised for his outstanding contribution last term, picking up an award in recognition of his performances.

Maxime Esteve named in PFA Championship Team of the Year

After the side’s defensive dominance last season, Esteve has been rewarded with a place in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

He is joined in the line-up by former teammates Trafford, CJ Egan-Riley and Josh Brownhill, all who have left Burnley.

Burnley’s official club account announced the news on Instagram, with the post earning likes from Kyle Walker, Lyle Foster and Trafford.

Despite the changes at the club this summer, Esteve committed his long-term future to Burnley by signing a new deal, ending speculation over a possible move away.

Football Insider had reported that Tottenham were monitoring Esteve’s situation, but with him extending his contract – and Cristian Romero also signing fresh terms at Spurs – a move now looks unlikely.

The Frenchman originally joined Burnley on loan from Montpellier, before making the move permanent last summer despite the club’s relegation. He now continues his journey as part of Burnley’s Premier League return.

While Burnley have secured Esteve’s future and seen him recognised for his standout season, Mike Tresor looks set for an exit.

Reports suggest Tresor is likely to leave Burnley after being left out of the squad for the defeat against Tottenham, fuelling speculation over his future.

The 26-year-old has endured a difficult spell at Turf Moor, struggling with injuries and health-related setbacks, and it now appears he does not feature in Scott Parker’s plans for the season ahead.
