Kyle Walker-Peters absolutely gutted after new developments away from West Ham
Kyle Walker-Peters could see his positive performances come to a swift conclusion following an update away from West Ham.
The 28-year-old full-back now has 10 Premier League starts to his name since arriving on a free transfer from Southampton, even grabbing a goal during the dramatic win over Burnley.
He is used to being in a relegation dogfight, and with West Ham just inside the dropzone after 21 games, Nuno Espirito Santo will be looking to his more experienced players in the second half of the campaign.
There is no doubt that the Hammers are in desperate need of reinforcements, proven by the early moves for Taty Castellanos and Pablo, both strikers arriving from European sides.
Callum Wilson looks set to leave West Ham, likely as a result of those two signings, and there could be more given possible future injuries and players on international duty at AFCON.
Kyle Walker-Peters has thrived in the absence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Nuno is currently without El Hadji Malick Diouf and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, allowing for both Walker-Peters and Ollie Scarles the perfect opportunities to prove themselves in the first-team set-up.
Scarles was left in tears against Fulham, having made the mistake in the lead-up to Raul Jimenez‘s winner, but the manager has really had no other option but to keep playing him at left-back.
On the opposite flank, it has been no surprise to see Walker-Peters act as an utter professional, albeit most of it totally pointless, with the Irons dropping into the relegation zone in recent weeks.
All that hard work could all be for nothing, though, now that Wan-Bissaka is likely to be on his way back to the London Stadium after new developments at AFCON.
Wan-Bissaka set for West Ham return after AFCON exit
Taking on Algeria in the round of 16 on Tuesday, 6 January, the Dominican Republic of Congo were knocked out in heartbreaking style, losing to a beauty in the 119th minute.
Multiple players have already returned to their respective clubs after not making it through to the next round of the competition, and Wan-Bissaka could be next to join that list.
Given how well he has performed over the seasons, there is no way that Nuno can leave the 28-year-old on the bench, and that would suggest the end of the line for Walker-Peters, sadly.
The competition is obviously healthy for both players, but after a positive run of games in the side, there is no chance that Walker-Peters gives up his position without a fight.
