Kyle Walker-Peters: ‘Premier League clubs racing to agree Southampton deal’

Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters is set to sound out offers from multiple Premier League clubs before deciding his final destination.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 27-year-old will not sign a new contract with the Saints.

This comes amid growing interest from the likes of Tottenham and West Ham, while Leicester have also eyed a potential swoop.

Football Insider revealed on 7 January that clubs are preparing cut-price bids to sign the full-back this month rather than waiting until his contract expires.

However, Brown has explained that the final decisions rests in Walker-Peters’ hands and he could receive a better offer if he moves on a free.

While domestic clubs are not allowed to enter negotiations until his deal officially expires on 30 June, many are already putting plans in place to make their move.

Walker-Peters’ ability to play both as a right-back and a left-back is seen as a valuable asset for a number of clubs, while his Premier League experience is also a key factor.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that a deal is more likely to take place at the end of the season rather than in the January window.

He’s a very good player,” he told Football Insider.

“Even though Southampton have struggled, he’s been one of their best players.

“Clubs will have already been watching him and preparing to make a move when his contract expires, because he isn’t going to sign a new one.

“There are a lot of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on him.

“They could look to sign him this month, but Southampton aren’t going to want to lose a key player in the middle of the season.

“From his point of view, as well, if it goes until the end of the season he’s likely to make more money from the deal, so that certainly comes into it.

“His agent will advise him to wait and see what offers he get’s, I’d expect.”
