Kylian Mbappe cited as Liverpool backed to sign midfielder – pundit
Frank McAvennie has urged Liverpool to spend big on Jude Bellingham rather than Kylian Mbappe.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker insisted Liverpool don’t need Mbappe but signing Bellingham could be the “resurgence” of the Reds.
According to Spanish outlet Sport (19 December), the Reds are back in the running to make a “huge” bid in the summer for Mbappe, 24, after re-emerging as one of the club’s monitoring his situation.
The striker has just under three years left on his contract at PSG.
On 10 December, sources told this site that the Merseysiders were close to securing Bellingham in the summer but ultimately could not secure a full agreement at the time and he stayed Borussia Dortmund.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are now in pole position to sign the 19-year-old star and are pushing hard for a deal behind the scenes.
Bellingham’s current deal expires in 2025 but Dortmund are expecting the England international the quit and he could leave as early as January.
McAvennie insisted the Reds should be pushing for the Dortmund star.
“I think Liverpool will be going for Bellingham rather than Mbappe,” he told Football Insider.

“They need that position, they need him to sign. It will be the resurgence of Liverpool. I think they need to spend that kind of money rather than astronomical amounts on Mbappe.
“They have got enough shirt sales that they do not need him.“
