La Liga expert details why Barcelona may want to sign Harry Maguire from Man United

Kevin Campbell is “unsurprised” to hear Barcelona are interested in Man United centre-back Harry Maguire.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker said the 29-year-old’s attributes would be well-suited to Barcelona.

Maguire struggled for the Red Devils in the 2021-22 campaign.

According to Andy Mitten, writing in The National News (27 June), Barcelona have enquired about the availably of the England international this summer.

The two clubs have been in talks over a deal for Frenkie de Jong in recent weeks.

Maguire has three years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

Campbell, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV in 2021, suggested Maguire was a Barcelona-esque player.

“I’m not surprised that they are interested,” he told Football Insider.

“Harry Maguire gets a hard time. When things go well, nothing is said. As soon as things go bad, the fingers gets pointed at him.

“He is still a capable centre-half. He is good on the ball and he has never let England down.

“Some might say he is not good enough but other teams will be thinking, ‘Do you know what, I will take him.’

“He has good traits. He is big, strong, good in the air and good on the ball.

“If you are a possession team like Barcelona he could be a very useful player. It wouldn’t surprise me.”
