La Liga expert issues Diego Carlos claim after ‘dream’ Aston Villa reveal
Kevin Campbell has backed Diego Carlos to become a “fan’s favourite” at Aston Villa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League striker and La Liga TV pundit claimed Carlos is more of an “English” defender than a Spanish one.
Aston Villa first revealed last month (26 May) that they agreed an undisclosed fee with Sevilla for the 29-year-old.
They finally confirmed on Wednesday (1 June) that the centre-back had completed a medical and signed a four-year deal with the club.
He will officially become an Aston Villa player on June 10 when the transfer window opens and revealed to the club it is a “dream” to play in the Premier League.
Carlos is the Midlands giants’ second signing of the summer after adding defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara, 22, on a free transfer from Marseille last month (23 May).
Asked for his verdict on Carlos, Campbell told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs: “He’s aggressive, strong, quick and a good defender.
“He’s more typically English than a Spanish-type defender.
“He’ll become a fan’s favourite. He’s aggressive, gets stuck in and puts his body on the line. English fans love that.
“I’m sure he’ll be a fan’s favourite at Villa.”

Carlos spent four years with Sevilla making 136 appearances across all competitions and was part of the side that won the 2020 Europa League by beating Inter Milan in the final.
While he does not have a full international cap he was part of the Brazil side, alongside Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz, that won gold at the 2020 Olympic games in Japan.
