Leeds United defender Diego Llorente

Kevin Campbell has tipped Diego Llorente to explode for Leeds United next season after an “injury-hit” start to his career at Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal striker, who delivers weekly punditry for La Liga TV, claimed the 27-year-old needs to use the next few months to acclimatise to the Premier League before producing his “best” next season.

Spaniard Llorente has endured a torrid time with injury since he arrived from Real Sociedad in an £18million deal last summer.

However, he appears to have turned a corner at Elland Road after he lasted the full 90 minutes for the second consecutive Premier League game on Saturday.

He completed 91 per cent of his attempted passes and won 73 per cent of his duels against Aston Villa, in what was only his third start for the club. (Wyscout)

When asked for his assessment of Llorente’s return to action last month, Campbell told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs:

“Llorente getting more game time under his belt is fantastic news for Leeds.

“The more game time he gets will only be beneficial for next season. I think these next few months are about getting accustomed to the league, then he will know exactly what he’s in for.

“I think we will see the best of Llorente next season. This season has been very injury-hit but next year I think we will see his best.”
