Erik Lamela is on the verge of a Tottenham comeback after nearly a year out, according to a report.

Sky Sports claim on their website that the Argentine is on course for a playing return next month as he completes the rehabilitation on his injured hip.

It is said that Lamela is in line to play for Spurs after the October international break, with three fixtures possible for his comeback.

These are the 14 October home clash against Bournemouth, the Champions League trip to Real Madrid three days later and the showdown against Liverpool at Wembley on 22 October.

Lamela’s last competitive appearance in a Spurs shirt came as a 61st-minute substitute in the 2-1 League Cup defeat at Anfield on October 25 of last year.

The 25-year-old underwent surgery in April after attempts to cure him of his hip injury hit a brick wall.

A fresh setback in his recovery extended his lengthy absence, which looks set to reach almost a full calendar year.

Sky report that Lamela was pictured looking in good condition at the Spurs training headquarters on Thursday.

The Argentina international joined the Londoners from Roma for £30million in 2013 and has made 121 appearances, scoring 19 goals and supplying 31 assists.

In other Tottenham team news, a Sky pundit has claimed that Spurs’ players didn’t want to pass to one teammate during their draw against Swansea.
