BT Sport pundit makes revelation about Aston Villa summer signing

By Abigail Withey

Frank Lampard has revealed that his former Chelsea team mate John Terry loves to play in goal and would regularly put on the goalkeepers’ gloves during training sessions.

The former midfielder, now BT Sport pundit, played alongside Aston Villa’s summer signing for 13 years at Stamford Bridge and has highly praised the 36-year-old.

Terry made a total of 690 appearances for Chelsea throughout his time at the club where he also scored 65 goals and Lampard has named him as the hardest working player at the club.

“Who worked the hardest at the club? I would have to say John Terry is the hardest worker,” the ex-Manchester City playmaker revealed during an interview with FourFourTwo.

“I joined the club and I think John was 18 and he was already outstanding for how hard he worked at his game.

“He was very talented and made the most out of every talent he had.”

Lampard also revealed that as well as being the hardest trainer, the new Villa signing was also the toughest tackler and went on to speak about his goalkeeping prowess.

“We would go to warm up, John would go in goal and we’d all smash balls at him for 15 minutes before training started. He’d get the gloves on and do it properly. He was actually pretty good,” his ex-team mate added.

Although this admission may be surprising to many, it may not shock those who remember when the centre-back went in goal for his former London club back in 2006 against Reading after Petr Cech suffered a bad head injury and back-up keeper Carlo Cudicini had picked up an injury.

After 22 years at the club, Terry moved to join Steve Bruce’s side on a free transfer and was announced as the club’s first signing of the summer transfer window.

The defender was named as the squad’s captain for the season and has led out the Claret and Blues seven times during the current campaign.
