Lascelles: This is what sets Newcastle apart from PL rivals

By Guy Giles

Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has said their experience in the winning the Championship title will help his team put tough losses behind them and keep focused as they look to succeed in the Premier League.

The Magpies fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor last weekend, and Lascelles highlighted their Championship days as key to getting past these kinds of games.

He told Chronicle Live: “In the Championship this team learned to just put these results in the past quickly and move on. You can’t be too happy when you win and you can’t be too down when you lose.

“It’s important that you stay humble, stay level headed and you’ve got to respect every team but at the same time be confident you’re going to beat them.”

Lascelles has been a talismanic figure for Newcastle since his promotion to the captaincy, and he has carried his promising form into Premier League life with the Magpies.

Newcastle have the joint-fourth best defence in the league this year, having conceded only nine goals in their first 10 matches, and this is another reason why Lascelles is confident in his team’s ability to compete in the top division.

“The main positive to take [from the Burnley defeat] is our defensive organisation. We’ve been really organised this season and hard to break down,” Lascelles added.

In other Newcastle United news, a League One manager has confirmed interest in striking a deal for Magpies youngster.
