Lasogga and Bamford axed: Leeds and Middlesbrough combined XI ahead of Riverside clash
Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Patrick Bamford would be axed in a combined XI made up of Leeds United and Middlesbrough players ahead of the clash between the two play-off-chasing clubs at the Riverside on Friday night.
Tony Pulis’ side are set to welcome the Whites to Teesside this week as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 3-3 draw with Sunderland last weekend.
However Paul Heckingbottom’s Leeds will be buzzing after winning their first game of 2018 and their first since Thomas Christiansen was sacked when they dispatched of Brentford 1-0 at the weekend.
Both sides have a lot of quality talent, and here Football Insider has compiled a combined starting line-up made up of players from both sides in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Darren Randolph would take the spot in goal ahead of Felix Wiedwald, who has been shocking in some of his performances this season.
Gaetano Berardi, Pontus Jansson, Ben Gibson and George Friend would make up the back four. Luke Ayling would probably make the cut at right-back if he was not ruled out for the rest of the season.
Muhamed Besic and former Boro star Forshaw must be included in the deep-lying midfield roles.
Both of them were on the move in January and have hit the ground running at their new clubs.
Adama Traore and Samuel Saiz are obvious picks in attacking midfield while Pablo Hernandez’s experience and consistency sees him picked ahead of Bamford on the left wing.
Britt Assombalonga is one of the most devastating centre-forwards to grace the Championship in the past few years, so he is an obvious choice to be named in the combined XI ahead of Lasogga.
In other Leeds United news, Heckingbottom has admitted that he cannot do anything to improve this £3million Whites player.
