Alex Bruce has lauded Marcelo Bielsa for transforming the atmosphere at Leeds United since his appointment as manager.
The former Leeds defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits the club is almost unrecognisable from the “laughable” outfit the Whites were when he was at Elland Road.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month, the Leeds board are holding talks with Bielsa over a new £100,000-a-week deal after the club’s successful promotion push.
Having taken over a side who finished 13th the season before, he took Leeds to a third-place finish during his first year in charge before winning the Championship title this term.
Bruce, who spent two years at Elland Road between 2010 and 2012, has been left bowled over by Bielsa and admits he has completely transformed the atmosphere around Elland Road.
Asked if he thought Bruce told Football Insider: “He’s done a fantastic job, his record speaks for itself.
“For Leeds, after all the trouble that they’ve had off the pitch, I remember when I was there and all the stuff that was going on was laughable sometimes behind the scenes.
“He’s come in, cleared all those dark clouds that have hung over Leeds for such a long period of time now, what is it, 16 years?
“He’s then gone and got the players playing the way they have on the pitch and lifting the spirits of the club and the atmosphere among the club just shows what a fantastic job he’s done.”
Leeds won the Championship title by 10 points as West Brom finished as runners up to Bielsa and his men.
The Argentine has never spent longer than two years as manager of any club side, meaning that Leeds will be his longest stint if he stays on for next season.
In other Leeds United news, Bielsa has been tipped to move for a striker he recently watched.
