Sky pundit: I don't rate this Chelsea first-team regular, Conte should replace him

By Alex Stevens

Matt Le Tissier has urged Chelsea manager to source a better player than Marcos Alonso for the left wing-back position.

Alonso has been a first-team regular for the Premier League leaders this season and a key man during their storming 13-match winning sequence that lifted them well clear at the summit.

But Sky Sports pundit Le Tissier is not convinced that former Sunderland ace Alonso is up to scratch and believes manager Antonio Conte can find a better player for that position.

Former Spain Under-19 international Alonso has been a regular since Conte reshaped his side to fit a 3-4-3 formation that has paid huge dividends.

Victor Moses has taken on the right-sided wing-back role and taken his game to a new level.

Le Tissier gave his verdict on Chelsea’s squad at the midway point of a season in which they have been revitalised by the Italian coach.

“I’m still not convinced Marcos Alonso is strong enough in the wing-back position,” Le Tissier told the Sky Sports website.” Victor Moses has done particularly well but I think they could improve on Alonso.”

The 26-year-old, who was signed by Chelsea from Fiorentina last summer, has made 18 appearances for the London club this season, scoring one goal and supplying two assists.

Moses has been a more effective attacking presence on the other flank, scoring four goals from 21 matches this season.

In other Chelsea transfer news, the London giants have all but secured a sensational January swap deal.
