Matt Le Tissier is convinced that Liverpool’s trip to Manchester United will provide a much sterner test for Virgil Van Dijk.
The Southampton legend and Sky Sports pundit believes the Merseysiders’ club-record signing has had it too easy since joining in the January window.
In his prediction for the Sky Sports website, the Soccer Saturday pundit predicted the Old Trafford showdown tomorrow (Saturday) will end as a 2-2 draw as Van Dijk is put through his paces by Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku and company.
“I feel like both teams are more bothered about not losing than winning, but I fancy Liverpool to break through United’s backline, open the scoring and jolt United into some attacking play,” said Le Tissier on Sky Sports’ website.
“It will be a good test of how Virgil Van Dijk, who has strolled through some games without having a hard time, will get on against a much tougher test with United’s attacking power and pace.”
Football Insider verdict:
Le Tissier has seen plenty of Van Dijk in action from his time at Southampton, and knows as well as anyone what a top-notch centre-back he is. The Dutchman has settled in superbly since joining at the start of January and has already established himself as Liverpool’s first-choice centre-back. He has a complete all-round game with no discernible weakness and is just as comfortable heading away set-pieces in a crowded box as matching pace forward in a sprint race and pinging 60-yard crossfield passes on a sixpence. Lukaku and Sanchez at Old Trafford will provide a completely different threat, but don’t be surprised if the giant delivers a standout performance.
