Le Tissier: West Ham need to sign this PL player in the summer
By Aramide Oladipo
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier believes that West Ham should do everything in their power to acquire the services of Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe this summer.
Despite his best efforts, Jermain Defoe wasn’t able to prevent Sunderland from being relegated this season.
The 34-year-old was recently voted Sunderland’s best player of the year for the second year in a row at the club’s annual end of season award ceremony.
Defoe has been in outstanding form this season as he has scored a total of 15 Premier League goals and provided two assists – a great return for a struggling relegated team.
His fine displays earned him a call up back to the England national squad and he marked his return by scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 World Cup qualifier win over Lithuania at Wembley Stadium in March.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday morning (11am), Le Tissier believes that the Hammers should sign the striker this summer.
“They’ve had their problems in the forward department, a lot to do with injuries as well, but if you’ve got injury prone forwards you need decent cover,” he said.
“I think Jermain Defoe is one of the players that they’ve been linked with quite heavily, obviously he’s a former player and somebody who would fit in that squad pretty well.”
Defoe spent the majority of his early career at West Ham and he managed to score 18 Premier League goals in his first two full seasons at the club.
The striker left the club at the end of the 2002/03 campaign when the Hammers were relegated from the Premier League and went on to have a successful spell at London rivals Tottenham.
