League One and League Two postponement latest as snow and ice warnings hit UK, one game under threat
Port Vale’s League One against Barnsley on Sunday could be under threat after a new yellow weather warning from the Met Office for snow and ice.
League One is hotting up at both ends of the table as each team aims for success in the second half of the campaign.
Port Vale have found themselves in the bottom four of the division since the early stages of the campaign, with Darren Moore recently sacked as manager of the Vale Park outfit after a dismal run of form.
They bounced back with a 5-1 win over Blackpool on New Year’s Day following his departure, and are now set to face Barnsley on home turf on Sunday afternoon.
Tykes boss Conor Hourihane is under pressure right now, as they sit 16th in the third tier, but he could be handed a reprieve with their clash potentially set to be postponed following a new update.
Port Vale vs Barnsley could be postponed after Met Office update
The Met Office‘s latest weather forecast for Sunday has plunged the status of Barnsley’s trip to Vale Park into uncertainty.
They have issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice that covers Stoke-on-Trent and is set to run from 3 pm on Sunday to 12 pm on Monday.
Snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales, parts of north-west England and the West Midlands on Sunday, meaning the game could face postponement either before or after kick-off.
Travelling fans are warned that they could face longer journey times by road, bus and train services, while pavements are expected to be slippy due to ice.
Who is the favourite to take over as Vale’s new boss?
Vale’s interim manager Jamie Smith led them to a fantastic win against fellow strugglers Blackpool last time out, but he is not expected to take the reins permanently as they aim to move closer to potentially avoiding relegation.
Former Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson is the favourite to become Vale’s next permanent boss, at 4/5 odds, according to one of the UK’s leading bookmakers.

Liam Ridgewell is in contention to take over at Vale Park, as revealed by Football Insider, while ex-Northampton Town boss Jon Brady is deemed to be the second favourite for the position at odds of 11/4.
Matt Bloomfield follows at 3/1, with Liam Manning up next at 8/1 and Mark Kennedy behind him at 14/1 odds.
