League One postponement latest as Met Office release new weather warnings across England

League One games in the north and East of England on Tuesday are at risk of postponement after new weather warnings were released.

The Met Office have issued a yellow warning for ice, spanning from Ipswich to as far as Newcastle and Carlisle.

It has been a difficult past couple of months for stadiums and pitches around the UK amid chaotic weather conditions.

Freezing temperatures and torrential rain have seen several games called off in recent weeks, and there looks to be no let-up yet.

Officials will be closely monitoring conditions ahead of Tuesday evening’s League One games, with safety both inside and outside the stadiums to be considered.

Which League One games are at risk?

There could be top-of-the-table ramifications on Tuesday, if the weather does indeed play a part in the action.

Second-placed Lincoln City‘s clash with Northampton Town is expected to fall right in the impact zone for the warnings, whereas league leaders Cardiff City should be unaffected when they play Wimbledon.

Elsewhere, Bradford City are due to host fourth against fifth, when they welcome Stockport County to Valley Parade.

They could also face disruption, however, and so could Barnsley when they face Peterborough United.

Burton Albion’s clash with Rotherham United, and Doncaster Rovers’ match against Huddersfield Town are the other games that could face postponement.

As of Tuesday morning, all five games are due to go ahead, although supporters planning to attend should keep a close eye on the official channels.

League One inspections to take place

Any concerns about possible disruption due to weather on Tuesday would have been made by the respective clubs to the matchday officials on Monday, as per protocol.

Referees would have been in attendance at each stadium in the early hours of the day of the match, conducting an early inspection of the pitch and surrounding areas.

Conditions will continue to be monitored throughout the day, however, with temperatures dropping towards kick-off time.

Fans should take extra care on their way to each game if they are planning to attend, and keep updated with the latest plans in case of a late postponement.
