‘Leaked’ Tottenham story sheds new light on full takeover

Tottenham could buy out Daniel Levy amid his continued indirect investment in the Premier League club.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states there is a “chance” Spurs’ owners could buy Levy’s stake.

Spurs’ owners may not be able to block who Levy sells his stake to, with the 64-year-old valuing it up to £1billion.

Levy could agree a deal for his stake in Spurs at £800million, with it not coming with any voting rights or influence at the club.

‘Tottenham need unity to go forward’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Spurs fans should keep an eye on developments at the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks it would be beneficial for Spurs to have “fewer voices running things.”

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think there is a chance of the Lewis family buying Levy’s shares, but I think it might suit them better, as I say, to find somebody that they either know or can work with quite well.

“I think that would be their best solution. But yes, there is still that option. And as I say, it would seem that the Hong Kong story could be planted as a bit of a stalking horse to force the activity one way or another.

But it’s a story worth watching for Spurs fans and seeing how that goes, because getting a harmonious group at the top is so important, as I’ve mentioned many times at football clubs, and having as few voices running things makes it all the better.

“And if you start having split boardrooms and different meetings, it gets very, very tough. Spurs need that unity to be able to go forward after many years. I mean, Daniel as a single voice really controlling things, but they’ve got to get back to not having diverse groups.

“They’ve got to get back to that single voice, even though it’s taking it in a different direction than they believe that Daniel was taking it. It’s still important there’s only one single voice and one hand on the tiller.”

Scrutiny increases on Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero is also in the spotlight at Spurs following his red card in their 2-0 defeat against Manchester United.

There have been calls for Spurs to strip Romero of the captaincy, with the 27-year-old having been sent off six times since his debut for the club in 2021.

Romero will miss Spurs’ next four Premier League games, including a north London derby against rivals Arsenal.
