Leandro Bacuna: This is what I really think of Gabriel Agbonlahor
By Matt Farr
Leandro Bacuna believes that Aston Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor still has a major role to play at the club.
Agbonlahor made his long-awaited return form injury during the 1-0 derby win over rivals Birmingham on Sunday, capping off the afternoon with the match-winning goal.
The 30-year-old’s strike was his first goal for the club in 14 months, but Aston Villa team-mate Bacuna insists that he will kick-on and make an even bigger impact.
He delivered his verdict on Agbonlahor for the Birmingham Mail: “Everyone is supporting him. He has had a tough time coming back from injury at the start of the season and then another injury recently.
“I’m really happy he scored the goal and can crack on from there. He can still be very good for this team.

“He is 30 but he still has the pace. His work-rate is good, he never gives up. He can be good for the team going forward. We need to keep helping him and give him the confidence he needs.”
Agbonlahor was the much-needed hero for Aston Villa as they took on Birmingham without top goalscorer Jonathan Kodjia, who was serving a one-match suspension.
However, with Kodjia expected to return to the starting eleven to face Blackburn at the weekend, it remains to be seen what role Agbonlahor will play.
He has played primarily as a centre-forward for Aston Villa this season, but has also been deployed as a left-winger, which could be the way forward with Kodjia likely to return.
Agbonlahor is out of contract at the end of next season, and his performances over the next few weeks and into next season will no doubt determine his long term future at the club.
