Leandro Trossard and Moises Caicedo react to Tariq Lamptey’s Brighton message

Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey posted a message on social media after hitting a major Premier League milestone.

The 24-year-old has seen limited minutes for the Seagulls this season, but after an injury to Ferdi Kadioglu, the Ghana international has become a regular in Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

This has coincided with Brighton being battered 7-0 by Nottingham Forest, and responding by going on their best winning run of the season.

Following the victory against Fulham, the Seagulls have now won six games in-a-row in all competitions, however Lamptey’s red card against Newcastle forced the former Chelsea man to miss the 2-1 win over the Whites.

Tariq Lamptey celebrates becoming Premier League centurion

Following the win against Fulham, Lamptey posted a compilation of highlights from his career to Instagram, captioned: “100 PL Appearances. Grateful, we keep on working”.

The post was subsequently liked by former teammates Moises Caicedo and Leandro Trossard, showing support for the defender.

Lamptey was previously seen as one of the Premier League’s most talented fullbacks, but injuries have hampered the former Chelsea man’s development.

However, the Ghana international has added versatility to his game, giving his manager the ability to deploy him at both left and right-back, featuring in both positions this season.

Brighton heading for Champions League football

Football Insider Verdict

At the turn of the year, the Seagulls harboured outside hopes of qualifying for European football this season.

However, with the Premier League set to send five teams to the Champions League next season, based on English team’s performances in the competition, Brighton are now genuine contenders to sneak into Europe’s most esteemed competition.

The use of the term “cup final” to describe an important game for a team (that isn’t actually a cup final) has become wildly overused in recent years, however, Brighton’s next match, against Man City, could be pivotal in the race for Champions League football.

With the Sky Blues self-destructing this season, the Seagulls now sit just one point behind last year’s Premier League champions, and a win at the Etihad on Saturday (15 March), could put them in pole position to claim that fifth and final spot.
