Leandro Trossard responds to Mikel Merino’s new message as Arsenal exit lined up

Arsenal’s preparations for the new Premier League season could result in Leandro Trossard falling out of favour at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta‘s side have finally begun to strengthen in the transfer market after a quiet opening to the transfer window, with four players signed since the start of July and several other deals on the horizon.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke‘s arrivals have all been confirmed in the last three weeks, with deals close for both Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres.

The additions of Madueke and Gyokeres in particular will provide Arteta with much-needed competition in his Gunners frontline, but this could spell bad news for Trossard’s future as an Arsenal player.

Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze has also been mooted as possible signing for the Gunners and would join Madueke as an option on the left flank, potentially pushing Trossard down the pecking order.

Arsenal hit ‘new heights’ as Trossard speculation continues

Trossard‘s versatility has made him a key player for Arteta since his arrival from Brighton in early 2023, with 10 goals and assists apiece across 56 appearances and 37 starts in all competitions last season.

Mikel Merino is another player who covered in multiple positions last season, but he’s unlikely to be used up front by Arsenal again once Gyokeres’ signing is confirmed and could find himself back on the bench.

However, the Spaniard was front and centre of Arsenal‘s away kit launch during their pre-season tour of Singapore, posting on Instagram alongside Zubimendi, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori.

Merino‘s post (22 July) came from the top of a skyscraper and said; “Reaching new heights in Singapore with Arsenal and Adidas”, as Trossard was one of several Gunners players to leave a like.

Arsenal ready to green-light Trossard transfer

Football Insider Verdict

Trossard could soon be behind Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and new signings Madueke and Eze in Arsenal’s pecking order next season, and signs point towards the end of his Emirates career.

Arteta still sees Trossard as a valuable member of his squad at Arsenal despite this increased level of competition, but it’s unlikely he’ll want to sit on the bench for a season ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

It remains to be seen which clubs and leagues pounce for Trossard as it becomes increasingly clear that he’ll leave Arsenal, but Gunners fans will see the potential addition of Eze as a clear upgrade on the 30-year-old this summer.
