‘Leave my club’ – Tottenham fans explode after what Spurs ‘idiot’ did vs Copenhagen

Tottenham supporters have completely lost patience with one of their biggest names after an individual’s disappointing night against Copenhagen.

Brennan Johnson was slammed by Tottenham fans after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United, but the Welshman was on target to open the scoring on Tuesday, 4 November.

Wilson Odobert doubled Spurs’ lead just minutes into the second half before Thomas Frank‘s side ran away with a 4-0 victory, thanks to a special solo goal from Micky van de Ven and then Joao Palhinha.

However, it was shaping up to be a much more difficult night for the Premier League side after Johnson was sent off following a VAR review, lunging into the back of Marcos Lopez in the 57th minute.

Brennan Johnson suffers highs and lows of a Champions League night

While some supporters were sympathetic, not just because of his early goal, but also because the red card decision appeared to be very hard from referee Erik Lambrechts.

Two supporters were quick to make comments about Johnson leaving the club, while another simply labelled him an “idiot” after potentially putting Spurs’ Champions League victory at risk.

Johnson usually picks up cautions for mistimed tackles near the end of games, or even for dissent, but with a still image of his studs on the back of his opposition’s leg, the referee felt he had no choice.

Supporters are clearly frustrated by the player’s thoughtless challenge, but with his teammates kicking into another gear after his dismissal, it had little effect on the Lilywhites.

As per Opta, Johnson becomes the first British player to score and be sent off in the same Champions League game, though he will not feel like celebrating too much.

Luis Diaz also saw red in Bayern Munich’s clash with PSG on the same night, so it was a night to forget for goalscoring wingers in Europe on Tuesday night.

It has been a rollercoaster of a campaign for Johnson so far, and while the goal would have done wonders for his confidence, the red card has completely undone all of his hard work.
