Ledley King has hailed the partnership between Tottenham midfielders Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.

The duo have struck up a formidable relationship for Spurs in the centre of the pitch and are both regular features in the starting line-up.

Wanyama has made a smooth transition since his summer arrival from Southampton and managed to slot in alongside Dembele.

Eric Dier has lost his position in the central midfield role, but is being used mainly as a defender by manager Mauricio Pochettino this season.

Former Spurs captain King has hailed the qualities of Dembele and Wanyama, claiming that the pair compliment each other well.

“They (Dembele and Wanyama) are both top players,” King said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “Mousa can probably push forward closer to the opposition’s box while Victor is used to sitting in there protecting.

“They complement each other so well because they can do a bit of everything. Our defensive record is outstanding and it’s easy to see why when you have two players like that in front of the back four of five, as well as having a top goalkeeper.”

The two central midfielder have played a major role in Spurs’ success this campaign and has helped them reach second in the Premier League table, but they will be keen to close the nine-point gap to runaway leaders Chelsea.

Wanyama moved to White Hart Lane in the summer for £11million and has impressed supporters with his ability to break up play.

The 25-year-old previously worked with Pochettino during his spell at Southampton and has slotted seamlessly into the style at Spurs.

Meanwhile, Dembele has been a standout performer for the north London club in recent seasons and has made 179 appearances since he joined in 2012.

The 29-year-old is a powerful box-to-box midfielder and is regarded as one of the strongest player in the division.
