Lee Carsley: ‘You bottled it’ – Fans rage amid Jack Grealish and Madueke updates
England supporters have blasted the FA and claimed they “bottled” giving Lee Carsley the full-time managerial job.
The 50-year-old took charge of the Three Lions for six games after Gareth Southgate’s spell as manager ended after Euro 2024, and he won five of those.
Carsley led England to the top of Group 2 in the Nations League, securing promotion back to the A League when the competition next returns.
The England Under-21s boss also provided ample opportunities for younger players to break into the national squad by handing out eight first-team debuts during his six games in charge.
More first-team minutes were also given to players who had been on the fringes under Southgate, such as Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer.
There were fond farewells to Carlsey on social media, led by Jack Grealish who hailed him for bringing the “enjoyment back to England”, and Noni Madueke, who lauded the interim boss as the “GOAT” (greatest of all time).
The FA ultimately decided to hand the job to Thomas Tuchel, and the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss will take over in January.
