Lee Johnson shares verdict on Leeds senior man ahead of Bristol City clash
By Harvey Byrne
Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has hailed the work Garry Monk has done at Leeds, describing it as a “pressure cooker environment.”
The Yorkshire giants have not been without their controversies since Massimo Cellino took over in 2014 and the Italian is on his seventh manager since Brian McDermott lost his job three years a go.
Monk was also reportedly close to the sack after just two wins, two draws and three losses in seven matches in all competitions at the start of the campaign.
However, the young boss has turned the club’s form around excellently as they currently sit in fifth and Johnson was full of praise for his counterpart ahead of Tuesday’s clash.
“Garry Monk has done well in a pressure cooker environment,” told Johnson, as quoted by the official Bristol City Twitter account.
“It’s nice to see a young English manager doing well.”
Johnson is currently under pressure himself with just one win against bottom of the league Rotherham from his last 11 league matches in charge.
His team conceded a three goal lead against Derby on Saturday to draw 3-3 and with his side in 20th he will be eager to see an improvement in their form as soon as possible.
Leeds have lost their last two league matches against both Huddersfield and Cardiff respectively and they will be expecting to pick up all three points at Elland Road to ensure they see out the rest of the season in good form.
