Leeds agree terms with enforcer ahead of summer window, fee will reportedly be over £3m
By Harry Sykes
Pontus Jansson has agreed a permanent transfer to Leeds, it has been confirmed.
The Sweden international, 25, has penned a three-year contract that will come into effect in the summer window when his season-long loan from Torino ends.
Leeds announced on their official website and Twitter account that Jansson has committed to a deal that runs until the summer of 2020.
The Championship big hitters did not disclose the fee they will pay for the centre-back but the Yorkshire Evening Post claim that it will them £3.5million.
It comes after Jansson recently hit the 22-match mark that allowed Leeds to trigger the option in the loan contract he signed when moving from Serie A last August.
Leeds revealed they are “thrilled” to welcome Jansson permanently following the huge impression he has made in the opening half of the season.
The defender, whose enforcer style has made him a huge favourite among supporters, has established a formidable partnership with Kyle Bartley and being an integral member of a team that is fourth in the Championship and has genuine promotion hopes.
Jansson’s permanent transfer was hit by a two-week delay after he picked up his 10th yellow card of the season in the FA Cup win over Cambridge earlier this month.
But he made his 22nd appearance in the Championship win over Nottingham Forest nine days ago and then followed that up by scoring the winning goal in the 2-1 midweek triumph against Blackburn at Ewood Park.
Jansson is expected to be named in the team that takes on Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield in the league this weekend.
