Leeds are sleepwalking into minefield as contract situation grows increasingly perilous
Leeds United are under huge pressure to agree a number of new contracts with key players in the coming months.
The likes of Ethan Ampadu and Pascal Struijk have been allowed to get down to just one year remaining on their deals, and several others have just two.
After a strong campaign for Leeds, several rival Premier League sides will be watching developments with keen interest.
Failure to effectively deal with the situation could leave the Whites in danger of losing millions, with potential transfer fees falling with each month that passes without resolution.
Leeds transfer chiefs will be well aware of the worst-case scenario and will be working to avoid it at all costs.

Football Insider exclusively revealed earlier this month that Ampadu is in talks with Leeds over a new contract, but an agreement has yet to be found.
It raises the question of how the Whites managed to find themselves in a situation in which their captain and arguably best player is set to enter the last year of his contract.
| Leeds United player | Contract expiring in |
| Karl Darlow | 2026 |
| Ethan Ampadu | 2027 |
| Pascal Struijk | 2027 |
| Brenden Aaronson | 2027 |
| Joe Rodon | 2028 |
| Jayden Bogle | 2028 |
| Ao Tanaka | 2028 |
The same can be said of Struijk and Brenden Aaronson, who have both played a key part in Leedsโ Premier League survival, but will enter the final year of their contracts.
Current starting goalkeeper Karl Darlow is out of contract next month, although his age makes the situation different.
When it comes to the players with two years remaining on their deals, Joe Rodon, Jayden Bogle, Ao Tanaka, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Wilfred Gnonto have all played sizable parts in the season and could easily be targeted.

Should a head be turned, Leeds could be set to be forced to watch their valuable asset leave, either for free or for a vastly reduced fee to avoid them leaving for free.
The contract situations that may benefit Leeds
Illan Meslier, Sam Bryam and Alex Cairns are all due to leave Elland Road at the end of their contracts this summer, in moves that will not disgruntle anyone at Leeds.
Joel Piroe has just one year, which may well make him an easier asset to sell this summer as the Whites look to offload him.
Should Leeds sign a new striker, the same can be said of Lukas Nmecha, who was brought in on a free transfer and has had some strong moments this season.
The Premier League side also find themselves in a strong position when it comes to Largie Ramazani, who looks likely to leave this summer after a positive loan in La Liga.
The two years remaining on his contract mean Leeds should be able to generate a higher figure from his sale when he goes.
