Leeds backed to sign 10-assist Sosa this summer after ‘concrete interest’ reported – Whelan

Stuttgart full-back Borna Sosa “ticks all the boxes” for Leeds United this summer, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Whites and Middlesbrough striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old “sounds very much like a Marcelo Bielsa signing” given the threat he carries going forward.

Kicker claim Leeds have ‘concrete interest’ in Sosa as they search for a new left-back ahead of the prospective exit of Ezgjan Alioski.

Sosa has contributed an impressive 10 assists in 25 Bundesliga appearances this season.

Whelan predicts the left-back would be a big hit at Elland Road if signed this summer.

“Sosa sounds very much like a Marcelo Bielsa kind of signing,” he told Football Insider.

“Bielsa likes his wing-backs to get nice and high to join in the attacks. He likes them up into the final third whenever we have sustained possession. Our full-backs have been very attacking this season.

“He is only 23 as well so he is the right age. Bielsa has something to work with there, he can work with him. He ticks all of the boxes for me.

“The Bundesliga is a lot different to the Premier League but to get 10 assists is very impressive. It’s something to work with. Sosa is the kind of wing-back we are looking for.

“We are massively short of a natural, left-sided full-back. If he can replicate the stats he is producing in the Bundesliga for Leeds, wow, we would be very happy with him at Elland Road.”

In other news, Leeds fans’ favourite may have played last game for Leeds after what Noel Whelan has heard.
