Leeds could appoint US chief after Angus Kinnear exit news – Stefan Borson
Leeds United have seen various changes behind the scenes over the past couple of years following the takeover by 49ers Enterprises.
Angus Kinnear is one figure that has remained at Elland Road as CEO despite playing a key role under previous owner Andrea Radrizzani.
The 47-year-old joined the West Yorkshire giants in 2017, having previously spent four years as West Ham’s managing director and a decade with Arsenal as director of marketing, sales and partnerships.
The Daily Mail reported on 26 February Everton are closing in on a deal for Kinnear, but he won’t make the move until the end of this season.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he wouldn’t be surprised if the Leeds owners look to bring in an American CEO.
The investment arm of the San Fransisco 49ers purchased a 15 per cent stake at Elland Road in 2018 before completing its £170million takeover in July 2023.
Leeds fans have been celebrating Kinnear’s anticipated exit after questioning some of his decisions in recent years.

Angus Kinnear exit could be mutual decision as Leeds plot new hire
Borson admitted now could be the right time for Kinnear to move on as the ownership group looks to appoint its own CEO.
He told Football Insider: “I think they will be relaxed just because there’s been a lot of change of ownership since Kinnear was brought in.
“In many ways, it could be a mutual decision that now is the right time for the new owners to bring in their own CEO.
“We know the owners are clearly also looking at Rangers. They will have their own view and vision of what management will look like.
“The CEO there of the 49ers consortium group did a FT Business Summit interview.
“You got a good feel that they understand the opportunity that they’ve got, what they’ve bought and what they need to tweak.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to bring in a US CEO.”

Leeds are planning to make Tammy Abraham move
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider Leeds are planning a move for Tammy Abraham if they secure promotion back to the Premier League this season.
The 27-year-old, who has registered eight goals and four assists on loan at AC Milan this season, is no longer part of Roma’s plans.
Daniel Farke’s side are currently top of the Championship table, eight points clear of third-place Burnley, but their promotion rivals have a game in hand.
Leeds’ next fixture will see them make the trip to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth on Sunday (9 March).
