Leeds transfer bombshell: 27-year-old has quit the club - journalist

By Matt Farr

Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci will not be returning to the club at the end of the season, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay shared on his personal Twitter account on Friday morning that the 27-year-old defender had his contract terminated by Leeds last summer.

Hay also shared an image of the relevant FA document which lists Bellusci as having his contract terminated by the club on 4 July, 2016.

Bellusci joined Italian outfit Empoli three days earlier on 1 July after falling out-of-favour at Elland Road, although it was initially confirmed that he had only left Leeds on a season-long loan.

It was further reported that Empoli have an option to sign Bellusci on a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell, although the FA report suggests he is already a permanent fixture for the Serie A side.

The defender was thought to still has just over one year left to run on his contract deal at Leeds, whom he joined in August 2014 on a four-year contract.

He has been a regular member of the first team squad at Empoli this season, making 26 appearances for the club and scoring one goal.

In other Leeds transfer news, Garry Monk should plan a raid for this Premier League defender whose contract is set to expire this summer.
